Danida Fellowship course on ‘Green Growth and Carbon Markets’ held in Copenhagen

September 27, 2012

The course explored green energy and carbon market business opportunities in developing countries within a climate change and development context.  Aimed at business managers and entrepreneurs, the course was attended by 15 participants from Bhutan, Kenya, Indonesia and Ghana who learnt about development of business opportunities and new markets within the energy sector as well as in the fast developing global carbon market. The course was conducted by facilitators from UNEP Risø Centre (URC), NIRAS and UNEP and included modules on green energy and carbon market development, business opportunities, clean enterprise development, technologies and business cases on Green energy, CDM project development, and financial mechanisms including the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), to enable participants to build new private or public-private partnerships.

The course was organized by Danida Fellowship Centre in association with UNEP Risø Centre and NIRAS. Involving both classroom sessions and study tours, the course provided participants with the opportunity to engage and brainstorm ideas with each other, as well as learn more about the host country, Denmark. Paul Mwariri Njuguna from Kenya remarked, ‘This has been a really good experience providing a lot of exposure both within and outside class to help develop and implement business ideas. We met people from different countries, working in both public and private sector, who have been working or wish to work with renewable energy. I would definitely recommend this course to people from developing countries’. The course was concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony on a boat trip on the Roskilde fjord.

The next course will be held from 26 August to 13 September 2013, and prospective participants can find information about the course here and download the ‘Guidelines for Danida Fellowships” here.
