Mauritania – Climate Change Adaptation Expert – NDC 2.0 Stocktake

UNEP-CCC and the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD) are recruiting a national expert in climate adaptation to support the evaluation of Mauritania’s current Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 2.0) and inform the preparation of its next NDC (2025–2035).

The consultant will lead the assessment of the adaptation component across nine sectors, helping identify key achievements, gaps, and priorities. The work will contribute directly to the design of a more ambitious and effective adaptation strategy for NDC 3.0, to be submitted ahead of COP30.

Key responsibilities

  • Review and assess adaptation actions implemented under NDC 2.0

  • Map stakeholders and analyze institutional, technical, and financial capacity

  • Coordinate national consultations and stakeholder workshops

  • Provide inputs to macroeconomic assessments

  • Develop a forward-looking roadmap for scaling up adaptation in NDC 3.0

Profile

  • Expertise in national climate adaptation planning and implementation

  • Familiarity with national policy frameworks, MRV systems, and vulnerability assessments

  • Based in Mauritania, with excellent French writing and communication skills
