Mauritania – Macroeconomic Analyst – NDC 2.0 Stocktake

UNEP-CCC and the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD) are seeking a national macroeconomic expert to support the ongoing evaluation of Mauritania’s updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 2.0) and inform the development of its next NDC (2025–2035).

This consultancy will focus on analyzing the economic and fiscal implications of NDC implementation. The aim is to strengthen the evidence base for decision-making by assessing climate investment impacts on GDP, employment, and national budgets.

Key responsibilities

  • Map climate policies and measures with macroeconomic relevance

  • Collect and analyze budgetary and economic data (2021–2025)

  • Simulate the potential macroeconomic impact of climate investments

  • Assess institutional capacity for macroeconomic modelling and monitoring

  • Contribute to strategic recommendations for NDC 3.0

Profile

  • Proven experience in macroeconomic or fiscal analysis, ideally in climate or sustainable development contexts

  • Familiarity with public sector data, national budgeting, and modelling tools

  • Based in Mauritania and fluent in French
