UNEP-CCC is seeking a national mitigation expert to support the Government of Mauritania in evaluating progress on its current Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 2.0) and preparing for its next climate commitment, NDC 3.0.
In close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD), the consultant will coordinate the mitigation component of the NDC 2.0 stocktaking, assess implementation progress, and help design an ambitious and realistic path forward toward Mauritania’s 2030 climate targets.
Key responsibilities
Evaluate the implementation of mitigation measures under NDC 2.0 at national and local levels
Map stakeholders and assess institutional, human and financial capacities
Draft a mitigation assessment report with concrete recommendations for NDC 3.0
Contribute to macroeconomic analysis and coordination with adaptation and finance experts
Support stakeholder consultations and validation workshops
Profile
Proven experience in climate mitigation policy and implementation
Strong understanding of national climate planning processes and stakeholder coordination
Based in Mauritania, with excellent French writing and communication skills
