Mauritius: Local coordinator & NDC advisor

The UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre is looking for a consultant to support the development of Mauritius’ Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0 under the Paris Agreement.

The Local Coordinator & NDC Advisor will provide critical on-the-ground support to the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre in coordinating activities for the development of a country’s updated NDC 3.0. This role involves facilitating stakeholder engagement, supporting data collection and analysis for emissions projections and climate actions, assisting with project coordination and logistics, and ensuring activities align with national priorities and timelines, working closely with both local stakeholders and UNEP-CCC technical experts to contribute to the timely delivery of the revised NDC.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-the-ground coordination of project activities for the development of the updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement including planning and implementation of consultations with government, civil society, private sector, and others.
  • Develop and implement stakeholder engagement plans aligned with project goals.
  • Lead and undertake data collection for:
    •  Emission projections and GHG reduction scenarios.
    •  Mitigation and adaptation measures including investment costs, savings, co-benefits, and potential impacts.
    •  Climate impacts, adaptation, resilience, nature-based solutions, and loss & damage.
  • Coordinate and facilitate stakeholder consultations to identify/prioritize mitigation and adaptation actions.
  • Support project planning, coordination, and execution** in close cooperation with UNEP-CCC and local partners.
  • Support organization of workshops and trainings, including drafting reports and logistical arrangements.
  •  Ensure alignment with national priorities and sectoral activities, maintaining strong coordination with relevant institutions.
  •  Assist with any local logistical support related to field visits.

Requirements

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (e.g., Master’s) in a relevant field such as natural sciences, engineering, environmental/climate studies, or related disciplines.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated professional experience in climate change, particularly in NDC development, climate policy, data collection, stakeholder engagement or related work.
  •  Relevant work experience specified based on degree level
  •  Practical experience with formulation/monitoring of NDCs or similar climate action planning processes is highly desirable.

Skills:

  • Strong coordination, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills
  • Ability to collect, analyze and manage climate data for mitigation and adaptation planning
  • Experience working with government counterparts and sectoral institutions
