Research Assistant for Mitigation Analysis & Data Management Section

The Mitigation Analysis & Data Management of the UNEP DTU Partnership is looking for a dedicated research assistant to support our work on institutional development and projects we are implementing.

The UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP) is a leading international research and advisory institution on energy, climate change and sustainable development. As a collaborating centre of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), UDP works with a wide range of international entities, governments, and research institutions, to assist countries on their pathways towards sustainable development and climate goals. UDP has a staff of approximately 80 professionals from 26 different countries with backgrounds ranging from economics, to science, engineering, and energy planning. UDP currently implements project activities in more than 60 developing countries.

Mitigation Analysis & Data Management

MA&DM is one of the five sections at UDP. The MA&DM section focuses its expertise and work on supporting countries on identifying and implementing cost-effective mitigation policies and measures, actions and plans in different sectors as well as strengthening countries´ capacities to use tools and establish national frameworks to assess climate actions (in the context of their NDCs) and report on their progress.

Data handling is a fundamental element in mitigation analysis. Both goes hand in hand with global mitigation climate change efforts and general climate change data management efforts. Therefore, the MA&DM section requires interdisciplinary teams and approaches. It involves diverse sector experts but also data management experts as well as experts with different types of background such as engineer, economist or political science.

The section MA&DM is organized around four focus areas: a) Identification and analysis of greenhouse gases (GHG) mitigation potential and mitigation actions at national or sub-national level within sectors; b) Development of approaches and methodologies for the establishment and implementation of national and sectoral transparency systems for national & sub-national governments, cities and other non-state actors’ (NSAs) actions; c) Development of data management and NDC tracking tools, including development of databases; d) Engagement of non-state actors (NSAs) in NDC implementation and the wider Paris Agreement.

The work will be carried out in collaboration with relevant senior researchers/advisors who are part of the MA&DM section. Specific tasks will include:

  • Support the development of system analysis and functional specifications of software products
  • Conduct functional tests and assist on usability tests
  • Troubleshoot and provide user support on demand
  • Assist on user engagement
  • Develop user documentation
  • Maintenance and development of content in websites

In addition, other day-to-day activities may include:

  • Administrative tasks related to project management support incl. budget and reporting processes
  • Logistic support and planning of workshops, conferences, webinars, etc.
  • Contribution to ongoing projects with reporting and administration as needed
  • Preparing reports and communications material

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Business Informatics, Business Administration and Information Systems, Digital Innovation and Management, or similar
  • Solid understanding of software lifecycle, requirements specification, user experience, and system design
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain an organized work environment though effective time management and prioritization of assigned tasks

The following qualifications will be considered as assets:

  • Experience with UN system
  • Experience with project management (incl. reporting, budget, and consultation processes) and ability to comply with tightly managed internal processes
  • Experience in planning and organising workshops and conferences
  • Work experience of at least 1 year is preferred

Language

The working language at UDP is English so working and spoken fluency is needed. In addition, proficiency in other languages, especially French or Spanish would be an asset.

Terms of employment

UDP is part of the Department of Technology, Management, & Economics at the Technical University of Denmark and employees are university staff. The successful candidate will be employed in a full-time position according to the general terms valid for scientific staff at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The Research Assistant contract is offered for a two-year term.

The place of work is the UN City based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
