The UNEP-DTU Partnership (UDP) in coordination with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) are promoting and enhancing the implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, primarily through the NDC Action project funded by BMU Germany and more recently under the umbrella of the NDC Partnership (NDC-P)’s Climate Action Enhancement Package (CAEP), administered by the NDC-P Support Unit hosted by the World Resource Institute (WRI). The NDC Action project team based in Copenhagen ensures the general coordination and global management of the NDC Action project that is implemented in ten countries worldwide, but also supports outreach and advocacy activities.

Requirement for the consultant
Over the past few years, UNEP-DTU and UNEP have broadened its efforts to communicate messages to stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness and enhancing the profile of UNEP-DTU and UNEP’s work on climate change worldwide. To keep promoting the international visibility of UNEP-DTU and UNEP work and its products in the field of climate change and in particular NDCs, UNEP-DTU and UNEP are seeking a writer and editor.
The consultant will produce content to raise awareness about the NDC Action Project and overall work on NDCs. The objective of this assignment is to ensure that the NDC Action purposes, goals and aims are clearly communicated to key stakeholders.
The consultant will work closely with programme staff in the drafting and editing of a range of materials. These will include but are not limited to the drafting of press releases, stories as well as briefing notes.
Qualifications & experience
- Advanced university degree or equivalent qualification in communications, journalism, public relations, advertising, development, international relations, social sciences, public administration, or related fields;
- At least 10 years of relevant experience as a Writer/Editor;
- Proven experience in English editing and writing;
- Familiarity with U style and understanding of publication requirements desirable;
- Experience in report writing, editing and formatting of documents;
- Experience in drafting and editing UN reports;
- Working knowledge of ozone, climate change and pollution is an asset.

- Excellent writer and editor with strong attention to detail and the ability to alter writing style to reflect different audiences;
- Able to work and follow-up independently;
- Diplomacy, tact and patience;
- Ability to focus on a variety of tasks within a deadline-driven environment
- Creative and confident pitching communication ideas and strategies;
- Responds positively to critical feedback and differing points of view;
- Excellent attention to details.
