Dr. Andreea Calcan is Officer in Charge for the Head of the UN Environment Programme’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) and its Methane Science Studies Manager, leading UNEP’s global, data-driven methane initiatives that support evidence-based climate action. With over twenty years of experience directing large-scale, multi-million-dollar scientific campaigns across airborne research, cloud physics, and satellite calibration and validation, she has worked closely with institutions including the European and Romanian Space Agencies. Prior to joining UNEP, she coordinated Europe’s largest methane science study to date, uniting 13 research teams from 20 countries to assess emissions in one of Europe’s largest oil and gas-producing nations. She holds a PhD in Physics and an MSc in Optics, Spectroscopy and Lasers from the University of Bucharest, Romania.
