Brian joined UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre in June 2023. He is an ecological economist with over 10 years of experience, including more than 7 years specialising in climate change mitigation through carbon pricing instruments and climate finance. Brian has successfully managed and supported initiatives in over 10 countries worldwide in collaboration with national governments, international organisations, and NGOs, focusing on supporting the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions and Sustainable Development Goals in developing countries.
At UNEP CCC, Brian’s work centers on projects related to carbon markets and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. He contributes to the development of national policy frameworks, regulatory climate policy, peer-reviewed reports, publications, and policy briefings. His current projects include the Integrated Assessment for Article 6 (IAA6), Supporting Preparedness for Article 6 Cooperation (SPAR6C), Sustainable Development Initiative for Article 6 (SDI), and the Article 6 Pipeline.
Before joining UNEP CCC, Brian held roles as a coordinator and project manager at various organisations, including the Plan Vivo Foundation and the Mexican Stock Exchange (MEXICO2). He also held positions in other financial institutions and the private sector. In addition, Brian has served as an academic tutor at the University of Edinburgh and as a visiting lecturer at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
Brian holds an MSc in Ecological Economics from the University of Edinburgh, a postgraduate degree in Environmental Economics, and a dual BSc in International Business Administration. His areas of expertise are climate change mitigation, climate policy, carbon markets, carbon taxes, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, Emissions Trading Schemes (ETS), and the voluntary carbon market (VCM).
