Francesco joined UNEP-CCC and the Mitigation Analysis and Data Management Section in spring 2024, working within the Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT). His work ranges from Project Management tasks, supporting the global 10 networks in delivering effective capacity-building activities to developing countries, to in-person trainings to local experts regarding modelling tools and GHG projections, to BTR review processes.
Before UNEP-CCC, Francesco worked at the regional energy agency (APE-FVG) of his home region in Italy. Here he was involved in writing project proposals, carrying out the technical work and directly manage various EU-cooperation projects (Interreg, LIFE). These ranged from establishing local green hydrogen supply chains in alpine valleys, to the development of several quality-certified small scale district heating networks fueled with local biomass only (including sustainable forest management and cascade usage of the wood resource), to the modelling of the regional energy system and redaction of the Regional Energy Plan for decarbonization.
Francesco pursued his MSc in Sustainable Energy Engineering at the Danish Technical University (DTU) focusing on energy system modelling, energy markets and policies. In his master thesis project at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Francesco worked on techno-economic modelling of renewable islanded Energy-Water-Food systems for rural electrification and sustainable agriculture enhancement of Africa, collecting first-hand data in northern Ghana over a month-long trip.
Francesco speaks Italian, English and Spanish.
