James Grabert is the Director of the Mitigation Division at the UNFCCC Secretariat, where he has worked for over two decades. In this role, he leads the secretariat’s work on market-based approaches to climate change mitigation and also provides strategic leadership for communication and engagement activities. Previously, he served as a greenhouse gas emissions specialist and participated in numerous expert groups of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Mr. Grabert holds a B.A. in Economics and International Relations from Wheaton College and a Master’s in International Economics from the Institut de Hautes Études Internationales in Geneva, and has completed postgraduate studies in management and development at institutions including Stanford University, the University of Navarra (IESE), London Business School, and Harvard University.
