Measuring Sustainable Development in NAMAs

Enhancing understanding of how NAMAs can contribute to meeting national development goals

The Measuring Sustainable Development in NAMAs project contributed to improve quantitative and qualitative measurement of the sustainable development outcomes of Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs).
It enhanced understanding of how NAMAs can contribute to meeting national development goals and provided improved knowledge of early action and lessons learned on measurement of sustainable development considerations in NAMAs.

This was done through:

  • A review on tools and approaches used to assess and measure the sustainable development contributions of projects and initiatives that have applicability to NAMAs
  • Interviews with stakeholders in countries implementing early NAMAs to identify expectations and priorities with regard to sustainable development assessment and measurement for NAMAs

The analysis of the expectations and needs of various stakeholders in measuring sustainable development considerations in NAMAs, and the examination of tools, frameworks and indicators was used to elaborate criteria for a preliminary NAMA sustainable development framework.
The framework focuses on how to quantify sustainable development impacts to the extent possible and address gaps identified by stakeholders.
