This fifth Emissions Gap report has a different focus
from previous years. While it updates the 2020
emissions gap analysis, it gives particular attention
to the implications of the global carbon dioxide
emissions budget for staying within the 2 °C limit
beyond 2020. It does so because countries are
giving increasing attention to where they need
to be in 2025, 2030 and beyond. Furthermore,
this year’s update of the report benefits from the
findings on the emissions budget from the latest
series of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change (IPCC) reports
