TNA webinars, events, podcasts and publications in 2021

Dive into the different knowledge products released over the past year in the TNA project.

December 21, 2021

As 2021 comes to an end, we would like to share an overview of some of the knowledge products produced under the Global Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) project.

Through the TNA project, UNEP DTU Partnership helps developing countries determine their technology priorities for mitigating and adapting to climate change. The project follows a country-driven approach, working with regional centers of excellence in climate change mitigation and adaptation, and offering national, regional, and global capacity-building workshops, technical support missions, and technical backstopping.

Webinars & Event Recordings

UNEP DTU Partnership, as part of the TNA project, produces webinars around selected themes related to technology and the process of TNA implementation. During each webinar we speak with different experts and practitioners and get their views on how we can advance conditions for technology transfer and increase the implementation of climate technologies in developing countries.

To speak at the webinars, we invite experts from the international climate technology transfer and TNA communities, ranging from the UNFCCC, the CTCN, the University of Cape Town, the Asian Institute of Technology, the Green Climate Fund, the Green Technology Centre as well as multiple governmental bodies.

During COP 26, two TNA side events were recorded: one focusing on the acknowledgement of indigenous peoples’ technologies and one focusing on the green and blue economies on the African continent.

Our webinars and recorded events can be found here: https://tech-action.unepdtu.org/webinars/

Podcasts

UNEP DTU Partnership has created the ClimateTech Podcast series. In the ClimateTech Podcast we explore technology needs, potential and barriers, and how climate technologies can help address the climate crisis.

In each episode, we speak with experts and practitioners and get their views and insights on specific technologies or sectors and how we can speed up implementation in the developing world.

In our podcasts, we have explored topics ranging from access to clean energy, technology needs and optimism, technologies for the adaptation gap, the challenges and barriers in the solar PV market in Kenya, and lastly on Indigenous Peoples’ technologies and knowledge.

Our podcasts have a length of 30 to 45 minutes. You can listen to them here: https://tech-action.unepdtu.org/podcasts/ and https://unepccc.org/the-climatetech-podcast/

Publications

Throughout 2021, UNEP DTU Partnership has published a wide range of reports, briefs, guides and articles related to the TNA project. Below are a few of them. The rest can be found here.

Climate technologies in an urban context
This guidebook provides information on climate technologies relevant in an urban context, specifically in relation to buildings, transportation and waste management for mitigation, and in relation to droughts, floods and heatwaves for adaptation.

Indigenous Peoples and Climate Technologies
This guidebook provides information about how to identify and integrate relevant considerations on indigenous peoples and technologies into the TNA process, while ensuring that their free, prior and informed consent is obtained.

From Needs to Implementation: Stories from the Technology Needs Assessments
This publication highlights a new set of success stories on how countries have used their TNAs and TAPs to advance the implementation of climate technologies. It provides examples from different regions and covers different sectors, showing how TNAs are used by developing countries as a highly practical tool for both scaling up and implementing action on climate technologies.
