As one of the fastest-growing sources of energy demand and emissions, Pakistan’s transport sector plays a pivotal role in achieving national climate targets. The session will discuss the sector’s mitigation potential, policy readiness, and the financing pathways available through carbon markets under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
Article 6 capacity building
The UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre is organizing a series of webinars to build technical capacity for navigating Article 6 in key industrial sectors within Pakistan. These webinars and accompanying materials are designed to support sector-specific discussions on international carbon markets, focusing on national policies, project screening, financing, implementation, and best practices.
Following the introductory webinar on the fundamentals of carbon markets and Article 6, the second session which explored mitigation opportunities in the waste sector, and the third webinar focusing on financing decarbonization in the cement sector, this fourth webinar will turn to the transport sector.
Supporting a low-carbon transition
This webinar will showcase the findings of the SPAR6C study on transport sector decarbonization, with its authors, invited experts, and industry representatives presenting key insights on EVs, modal shifts, efficiency gains, and enabling frameworks for carbon market participation.
As the fourth webinar in the series, this session will discuss the sector’s mitigation potential, policy readiness, and the financing pathways available through carbon markets under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

The Supporting Preparedness for Article 6 Cooperation (SPAR6C) programme is a five-year initiative funded by the German Federal Government, formerly by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), through the International Climate Initiative (IKI).
The programme supports stakeholders in Colombia, Pakistan, Thailand, and Zambia to become prepared to engage in carbon transactions under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
Implementation is led by the Global Green Growth Institute, with support providers from Carbon Limits, UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre, Kommunalkredit Public Consulting and GFA Consulting.
