Now available: Capacity building modules for transparency

Four new modules for interactive training to use ICAT’s Policy Assessment Guides are now available with references to real world cases

June 17, 2021

It just got easier to use the series of Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) Policy Assessment Guides with four new capacity building modules – Introductory guide, Sustainable development, Transformational change and Stakeholder participation –  to introduce the guides and let users interact and explore cases and carry out exercises.

The capacity building modules build on UNEP DTU Partnership’s expertise in developing and using the ICAT Assessments Guides, pilot cases and examples from country applications of the guides (For example: TongaUganda, and Bolivia).

By developing two versions of the guides, they can both be used tailored to ICAT training sessions and workshops in countries as well as by other stakeholders by simply downloading them from the ICAT toolbox.

Assessing impacts for sustainable development and transformational change

Based on country demand, the new capacity building modules cover four of the ten ICAT Policy Assessment Guides, namely the Sustainable Development methodology, the Transformational Change methodology, the Stakeholder Participation methodology and an overarching Introductory Guide.

The ICAT Assessment Guides are a series of methodologies for assessing greenhouse gas emission reductions, sustainable development and transformational impacts of policies and actions in an integrated and comprehensive manner across all levels of governance. They help policymakers and other users assess the impacts of a country’s climate policies and actions, and can play a critical role in designing and implementing Nationally Determined Contributions and for preparing reports under the Enhanced Transparency Framework of the Paris Agreement.

Interactive modules

The modules are designed to give users the opportunity to go through them in an interactive and modular way. Action buttons give the choice to merely focus on the few parts or methodological steps of interest, or to explore examples and experiences on the exact topic in which a user is interested.

At the same time, the content of the modules is closely linked with the ICAT methodologies and relevant pilot case studies. The pilots showcase in detail, how to apply the assessments guides and what results they can help achieve.

Templates for easier assessments and reporting

Along with the capacity building modules, UNEP DTU Partnership in collaboration with ICAT, has also developed a series of templates for assessments and for reporting.

With or without using the capacity building modules, the templates make it easier to use the ICAT Assessment Guides. The reporting template and the assessment template help to communicate results in a clear and concise manner, in a format ready to be presented to other stakeholders.
