The Climate Finance Snapshot project in Fiji, supported under the NDC Partnership Action Fund, aims to strengthen the country’s ability to systematically track, assess, and mobilize climate finance across public, private, and international sources.
Building on earlier efforts, the project develops an enhanced and transparent national climate finance database covering the period 2020–2024. The approach introduces a more robust and standardised methodology to assess adaptation and mitigation relevance, enabling improved comparability and credibility of results.
UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Environment, and key national stakeholders, is supporting the consolidation of climate finance data from:
- Government budget allocations
- Official development assistance (ODA)
- Private sector investments
A central feature of the project is the development of a unified climate finance database that allows Fiji to generate consistent summaries, sectoral analyses, and trends without repeated restructuring of data. This strengthens institutional capacity and ensures long-term usability beyond the project lifecycle.
Expected impacts include:
- A comprehensive and transparent national overview of climate finance flows across sectors
- Strengthened government capacity to track, classify, and report climate finance using internationally recognised methodologies
- Improved evidence base to inform policy decisions, NDC implementation, and National Adaptation Plan (NAP) processes
- Enhanced ability to identify investment gaps and prioritize future climate investments
- Increased credibility and readiness to engage with international climate finance providers
By improving data availability, quality, and accessibility, the project enables Fiji to better align financial flows with national climate priorities and strengthens its position in accessing and mobilizing climate finance at scale.
This work is funded by the NDC Partnership Action Fund, a funding mechanism for countries to have greater access to technical and financial resources to respond to climate action needs.
Since 2023, UNEP and the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre have supported developing countries in fast-tracking their NDC implementation and bridging gaps in support with funding from the NDC Partnership Action Fund.
