The main objective of this project was to propose and design an improved national system for Monitoring Reporting and Verification (MRV) to support the implementation of mitigation actions, and other support received in the Maldives.
UNEP DTU Partnership provided an analysis of the existing reporting mechanisms and institutional arrangements for data collection and protocols to determine emission reductions as well as the MRV of financial support received and spent towards the implementation of mitigation actions.
UNEP DTU then proposed an improved MRV system based on the gap analysis conducted as part of this assignment.
Based on this project, Maldives developed an institutional framework for developing a national MRV system and will continue the designing of this MRV system with the support of UNEP DTU Partnership’s ICAT and CBIT projects. Through the project, barriers and gaps in climate finance and transparency in general were studied and recommendations presented.
The result of this project was also used for the Maldives first Biennial Update Report to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
