In collaboration with UN Environment’s Division of Environmental Policy Implementation (DEPI), UNEP DTU has provided implementation support to twelve Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) and two Adaptation Fund (AF) adaptation projects in Cambodia, Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, Lesotho, Madagascar, Rwanda and Tanzania, totalling more than $50 million in funding.
The projects covered a wide range of adaptation issues, including implementation Ecosystem Based Adaptation, Integrated Coastal Zone Management, Agriculture, and Water Management. The projects aimed to support the implementation of National Adaptation Programme of Actions (NAPAs) and as such have directly supported the building of resilience of vulnerable populations in some of the worlds least developed countries (and therefore most vulnerable to climate change).
UNEP DTU’s role and impact
The support provided included general technical oversight of project implementation, assuring that agreed outputs and outcomes were delivered in a timely manner and providing various technical/administrative advice to national project teams. In this role UNEP DTU also led inception workshops and annual supervision missions on the ground.
Furthermore, as part of this assignmen, UNEP DTU also lead the formulation of two Project Identification Formulas (PIFs) which succeeded in securing more $10 million LDCF funding in Lesotho and Sudan.
UNEP DTU’s engagement was completed in 2018.
